Delft Blue, Gustavian Grey

The soft, romantic tones of the Scandinavian colour palette and the faded patina that features in the prettiest of rustic rooms is always an inspiration for me. This is a selection of some of my favourites.

Hello Glenda

I always look forward to receiving your latest posts: you have such a good eye for beautiful interiors and fabrics.
Today, however, I can't tear myself away from these beautiful images. I have admired Lars Sjoberg for many years and it is always a pleasure to revisit his beautiful interiors. Thank you too for the other links.

Tucked away in my ancestry is a bloodline that apparently has an 'Ultra Norse'gene. So it should come as no surprise that I should feel so drawn to the Scandinavian colour palette. Somehow it just looks so right. As ever you have chosen some rather ravishing images. I particularily love your little vintage ice skates. Please tell me what the paint colour is behind them, it looks ideal for my bedroom furniture.

Thank you so much Sue! So kind as always! I collect vintage ice skates and those are a particular favourite because of the verdigris! The paint shown is in our bedroom and won't be much use for furniture I'm afraid as it's Distemper. It was a shade that Fired Earth did (now no longer available sadly) called Salisbury Stone, the Distemper gives it a chalky soft bloom with a wonderful uneven tone. The nearest I could suggest would be Stony Ground 211 from Farrow and Ball. Don't go by their web site for the colour as it's not like it at all! If you have a look at the post showing our kitchen and see the last picture with a close up of the dresser with our blue and white china and glass votive - that shows the shade. Although it really depends on how your monitor see it I suppose!!! It is one of my favourite shades though as it's a warm beige/grey putty tone!

How totally fabulous. Those words in the title were definite buzz words for me as they delight every sense. I just love this whole palette and used delft tile in my old house and loved it every morning that I walked into my kitchen (the real delft not the copied stuff) And of course the colors associated with Gustavian style have always appealed strongly to me. Beautiful post!

Scandinavian style has always been my favourite - perhaps due to my Finnish/Swedish heritage? Love those soft, muted shades of grey and blue :)

Glenda,

This style speaks to my soul. It is beautiful. I also love the soft muted colors i.e. the chalky stone or grey color palette mixed with the blue and the rustic look that the floors give the rooms. I have always loved the Swedish furnace (I think that is what it is called?) There is nothing in these rooms that I don't absolutely adore! Now, if only I were a rich woman. LOL

Dear Glenda,

Thank you for all the nice comments you leva me! You are so generous, thank you. You know I adore your work and blog, so it means a lot to me. I sat here the other evening looking at this last entry you had posted. Again, I was so impressed. Thought I'd write a few words, but was interrupted again. The Gustavian style exudes the kind of peace. The simplicity, the shape and details of the furniture and especially the colors, it appeals to me very much! I have always chosen, white, gray, blue, beige colours for my interior. I Do not know the if it has been a conscious choice, but I'm always drawn to them. It creates balance, especially with gold, yellow or brown. Green also .. I have a book that is worth mentioning, "Classic Swedish Interiors", written by Lars Sjøberg. Do you know him? The book has wonderful pictures of old houses he has renovated, aesthetics it is breathtaking!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Friendly, Aina
