Chalk

My favourite of all the colour palettes comes from my love of rustic interiors that have a soft dusted patina. From French console tables to Swedish Mora clocks in gently aged tones of chalky white, bone and putty. For me the charm of chipped paint, bleached wood, washed linen and worn stone gives a restful, soothing and calming atmosphere to a room.

Gorgeous images! I love this palette, too. Wish I could figure out how to incorporate it with the darker woods in my house. Lovely post, as usual :)

Oh thank you so much for such lovely comments!

Also Carolyn, have a look at this post: http://thepapermulberry.blogspot.com/2011/07/500-year-old-farmhouse-full-of-french.html

We have used this colour palette extensively throughout our home combined with dark woods. I do think the contrast can be divine!

Such gorgeous pieces in my favourite chalky colour. I have to say that those are the only starburst mirrors I've seen that I like :)

I don't know how it is that I haven't found you sooner! Thank goodness for Pinterest! Your collection of colors, textures and patinas...pure perfection. Your thoughtfulness and talent shines through! Many of your images remind me of the reasons I fell in love with Provence. And I love that you included some images from Cateau Domingue; it's one of the most inspiring shops we have in Houston.

I'll be back for sure!

I definitely need to re-read this again and admire!

I love the chalky finishes, too. They have character! That's one reason I really like the limewash paints. Chalkiness galore and with the dark colors, even though you would think they'd read dark, really don't because of the chalkiness.

Hi Glenda,
I have a beautiful French consolle I inherited from my beloved Granny, and I'd like to paint it exactly that way, or in an aged pale blue- grey shade (it's gilded at the moment). Not totally sure how to though- can you suggest an on-line tutorial?
Your selection is gorgeous and inspiring, as usual.
Have a happy week ahead!

Don't know how I missed this one,but these images take my breath away. I love crusty chalky paint finishes. Just silly, but they really make my heart beat faster. Too bad my husband doesn't feel the same way. A lot of compromise has to go on there.
